ASHEVILLE FLUTE VACATION announces that the May session is sold
out…but the good news for all the flutists who are motivated
to seek inspiration in the Smokey Mountains is that a 2ND “FALL
FOLIAGE” session is now planned for October 30-November 5,
2006.
Devoted
to the avid adult amateur, the Asheville Summer Vacation and Fall
Foliage Vacation fills the void created by the lack of opportunities
amateurs have available in the summer and throughout the year. Lea
Kibler and Kate Steinbeck provide a fun and nurturing environment
for those who love to play the flute. The age range of participants
varies from children through elder adults. The oldest guest to date
was 92 years old!
Flutists are NOT required to submit a tape…and everyone will
have a chance to perform.
Daily activities will include warm-up and rehearsals, as well as
coaching for trio and quartet ensemble playing. Each participant
will have two private lessons during the week. Leisure time will
also include a party to start the vacation and a party to end the
vacation. A recital is also planned for the final day.
In
addition to the study and performance of the flute, participants
will have the opportunity to tour the workshops of esteemed flute
makers Chris Abell and Lenny Lopatin. Both makers are artists representing
their individualized approach to flute making. Abell Flute Co. produces
exquisite handmade artist quality wooden flutes and Lopatin Flute
Co. has pioneered the “Square One” design in handmade
Silver and Gold flutes.
Housing for guests includes private rooms with bath in a bed &
breakfast. Spouses and partners are encouraged to attend and are
welcome at all activities.
