CALIENDO WORLD MUSIC PUBLISHING, Inc.

With such popular and appealing music for flute, one has to wonder whether or not Christopher Caliendo is really a flutist in disguise. His writing presents a composer with not just the heart of a romantic gypsy who has a multi-talented musical voice – with an uncanny ability to compose in various genres of music…but the heart of a flutist as well. Winner of the Henry Mancini Award for Film Composition, Christopher Caliendo has a catalogue of over 500 works. In addition to his work as a composer, he is also a recording artist, and performer. His intelligence is multi-faceted and his wide range of musical influence has gained him an international reputation…illustrated by his recent Vatican commissioned work.

The Mystic Saints

With musical compositions consistently enhanced with combinations of warm tonal voicings, enticing rhythms, and expressively composed phrases, the Caliendo style of composition has solid appeal to the listener. For flutists his writing style is effective with an understanding of the workings of the instrument making Caliendo flute repertoire flow easily from practice to performance. He shares music with the passionate and romantic side of his musical voice that frequently includes musical humor and virtuoso antics. The composer’s Andalusian roots come through and give all flutists permission to be truly extroverted with the sensual melodies and flair expressive flair required for performance. These sound-scapes are accessible to the audience, which accounts for their obvious appeal. Endorsed for years by “the Hollywood Flutist “– Sheridon Stokes (this year’s NFA Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient), Christopher Caliendo’s works are becoming regular features in the repertoire of flute choirs, ensembles, and solo listings…and at the recent NFA convention in San Diego.

As repertoire on varied programs, his music is a reviving refreshment of sound in contrast to the usual fare of other arrangements and solo avant-garde works that typically bombard ‘new works’ programs. At this convention it was evident how dominant he was in the programs and how beloved he his by this woodwind audience. We look forward to his consistent and energetic performances with their eternally appealing themes. He has exhibited again that he is a composer of relevance for flutists. No doubt his approachable and friendly personality - without a trace of composer aloofness adds to his appeal and his music reflects just that.
