Christmas collection. It is full of great and clever arrangements

quartet Free Flight.
“A Flute Tootin’ Yule is an excellent example of
musical perfection, interpretation, spiritualization…The choice
of repertoire is impeccable, and I would like to invite anyone who
would like to enjoy the holiday celebration to listen to a Flute
Tootin’ Yule”
-Lalo Schifrin, composer – Mission Impossible, Rush Hour

Imaginative sparkling transcriptions by a group of Los Angeles’
top flutists.”
-Anne Diener Zentner, Los Angeles Philharmonic
“A Flute Tootin’ Yule is a wonderful musical surprise.
From the piccolo to the contrabass flute, this ensemble of consummate
artists performs on an array of holiday favorites in grand style.
Their seventeen inspirational renditions of holiday favorites will
certainly bring smiles all around year after year. This CD is full
of joy and highly recommended.”
-Alf Clausen, composer – The Simpsons
The Resonance Flute Consort, was founded in April 2004 by a Los
Angeles flutist Karen Smith. In addition to being an accomplished
flutist Karen Smith is also a freelance music librarian with tenures
at various studios - Disney, Sony, Paramount, and has also maintains
the private concert libraries for composer John Williams and Lalo
Schifrin. She was the head librarian for 10 years for Jo Ann Kane
Music – Fox Studios.
Her studio and film contacts have naturally facilitated collaborations
with many fine musicians and composers. This particular CD contains
unique arrangements predominantly from composers in the film industry
along with educator - arranger/composer Steve Sample.
The project was initially inspired by Karen’s desire to create
something from start to finish with the musicians and composers
she feels have something to offer. Unlike many flute choir arrangements
that tend to have a block chord choir sound for seasonal music,
these pieces exhibit descriptive, creative and inspired arrangements
of traditional tunes.
They are orchestrated in a manner where each performer has their
own voice and character making for lively and contemplative listening
as well as evoking a refreshing holiday ambiance.
Flute Tootin Yule has received a wonderful review from www.Christmasreviews.com
in addition to receiving air play on various radio stations around
the country. The repertoire selected “reflects the sacred
and the secular, as well as the ancient and contemporary…the
stately pieces have an elegant flow and intense beauty…the
whole package is impressive!” – Carol Swanson,
Christmas Reviews
The ensemble includes flutists Norda Mullen, Rik Noyce, Michelle
Matsumune, Shannon Christianson, Julie Long, Karen Smith, along
with guest David Shostac on contrabass flute; all strong and well
known players in the Los Angeles area. The additional appeal of
the CD is influenced by the sonorous combinations an array of flutes
ranging from pan-pies, piccolos, C Flutes, Alto Flutes, Bass Flutes,
to Contrabass Flute, along with occasional percussive enhancements…all
artfully arranged. Certain moments throughout the recording exhibit
a soundtrack quality that creates a feeling of gesture and emotion.
When asked about the challenges and moments of enjoyment working
on this project, Karen stated, “Everything went so smoothly
due to the high level of professionalism. The only difficulties
were coordinating everyone’s busy life for a rehearsal. What
I enjoyed the most was taking a dream and making it come true…that
was the best. The professional team of flutists and composers were
so enthusiastic with their talent and energy that these factors
contributed to the overall veneer of the CD - a polished and unique
musical presentation of traditional favorites.”
The CD is available at the website www.flutetootinyule.com
for $14.99 plus $2 for postage.
Flutists will be happy to know that all the arrangements with the
exception of the Corelli piece (ALRY Publications) will be available
